The voice coil motor alternative
If you're on this page, you were probably looking into voice coil actuators, or voice coil motor stages for your positioning task.
The bad news: We do not manufacture voice coil products.
We're sorry. But...
We do offer a great alternative. Scroll down to see how our solution compares, and why it might be the better choice for your needs.
Benefits of voice coil motors
Voice coils offer various benefits in precision positioning tasks:
✅ High speeds
✅ Dynamic, high-frequency motion
✅ Millions of cycles of lifetime
However, they also have some drawbacks:
❌ Limited travel range
❌ Require continuous power
❌ Bulky and heavy, low size-to-force ratio
❌ Risk of mechanical backlash and noise
❌ Magnetism may be a problem in some applications

Most voice coil linear actuators cost $300-1000.

Shown above: XLS linear stage & XLA linear actuator
Linear actuators start at $300. Linear stages at $1300.
Introducing: Ultrasonic piezo motors
Xeryon's patented ultrasonic motors offer:
1) The benefits of voice coil motors, AND
2) The precision and miniature size of piezo motors
✅ Speeds up to 1 m/s
✅ Positioning frequency up to 1000+ Hz
✅ Resolution up to 5 nanometers
✅ Travel range up to 100+ mm
✅ Extremely compact
✅ No power needed to hold position
✅ Silent operation
✅ No mechanical backlash
✅ Millions of cycles of lifetime
✅ No magnets
These motors are available as linear actuators, as well as stages.
XLS - Linear stage

The XLS linear stage is precise, fast and offers unlimited travel range.
Applied industries (examples)
Vertical applications
The XLA series linear actuators are particularly well-suited for vertical applications. Their slim design and lack of magnets means they can be stacked with zero pitch.
Voice coils actuators are also commonly used in picking applications, but impose various design challenges, including the need for constant power. Voice coil motors do not hold position without power, unlike Xeryon's self-locking actuators and stages.
This leads to some integrators using safety mechanisms such as springs to avoid free-falling voice coil actuators, adding extra compexity and need for maintenance.

The Xeryon XLA is commonly used in pick-and-place applications.
